*It was another exciting Saturday for the PIHS bowling teams when they traveled to Nordic Lanes in Rushford last weekend. Once again our varsity Panthers managed to raise the blood pressure of their coaches and fans as they bowled neck and neck with Lake City in all five games of the match. Pine Island’s varsity team was the talk of the afternoon when they beat that team with two wins, one loss, and two tie games.

Why was this win so astonishing to teams, coaches, and spectators alike?

Well…no one expected the conference li’l ol’ number three PIHS team to roll over the number one ranked Lake City. While Lake City maintains their number one spot in the conference, PI’s win knocked them down a notch in their state ranking to a tie for number six.

Of note for PIHS vs. Lake City:

  • all PI bowlers had a fill average of 70% or more
  • the team’s average score per game was 196.2
  • PIHS averaged 5.8 strikes per game
  • Mahala Wolkenhauer’s fill average was 100%, filling 8 of 8 frames with strikes (5) and spares (3)
