100 Book

Your child should complete 2 “steps” (1 step = 15 minutes) per day at HOME Monday through Friday.  On the weekend students should read 1 “step” on Saturday and 1 “step” on Sunday.  Feel free to record any steps beyond these required steps.

What counts for our “2 steps”?

- Have your child read aloud to you from the books in their folder. The color on the book’s spine is their current color level.  Read twice or more if it is a struggle.
-Have your child read aloud to you from their own book collection at home.
-You can read aloud to your child.
-An older sibling can read aloud to your child.
-Read stories on iPads, kindles, or other electronic devices.
-Practice our word flashcards.

Reminders for during 100 Book time:

- When beginning the book, read aloud the title to your child.  You may read the first two pages of the   book aloud, so that they may pick up on the sentence pattern that repeats throughout the book. Have them read the rest of the book to you aloud.
- Encourage your child to point to each word as they say it.
- When they come to an unfamiliar word, encourage them to look at the picture for clues.  Also point to the word and talk about what the first letter is and what sound it makes.
