STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS – October 21, 2019

Announcements for October 21:
*Math League - meet #1 will be on Monday, October 28th as originally planned BUT it will be in PI (Mrs. Kohner's classroom). We will meet at 2:00 and plan to start when the ACT prep class people get there

*8th Grade Washington DC Trip Info for 2020
The Washington DC Trip will be on the following dates:
June 24-July 1, 2020
Student, Parents, and Grandparents are all invited to attend this trip. 

The meeting for students to learn about this trip will be held 8th hour on Wednesday, Nov 6th, in the forum room of the Pine Island HS/MS. 

The parent/student meeting will be held on Wed, Nov 13th, 7pm-8pm, in the Forum Room of Pine Island HS/MS. 

Parents, if you are interested in having your child attend this trip, please come to the Nov 13th meeting so you don't miss out on important info. 

If you are unable to attend the meeting, please email me so I can get the info to you via email.

*Students who have registered for the ACT Prep class will have their first session on  Monday, October 28th beginning at 8 AM in Mrs. Organ's room. Bring your tablet, a notebook, pencil, and sack lunch! The class will end no later than 3 PM. 

 

*WINTER SPORTS REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR 7TH-12TH GRADE STUDENTS 

Boy’s basketball, girl’s basketball, hockey, gymnastics and wrestling.

Middle School – $80.00

High School – $105

Hockey  – $400 

The PAC (parent/athlete/coach) meetings will be held on the following dates:

Boy’s basketball – Tuesday, October 29th at 7pm in the maroon gym.

Girl’s basketball – Wednesday, October 30th at 5:30pm in the Forum Room.

Gymnastics – Wednesday, October 30th at 6:30pm in the Choir Room.

Wrestling – Monday, November 11th at 6:00pm in the Forum Room. 

To Register go to the Pine Island school Website and scroll to the bottom of the page and into online fee payment then click into Athletic Payments.  

Every athlete must have an updated sports physical on file at the school. Sports physicals are good for 3 years. If you have any questions please email dkaye@pineisland.k12.mn.us

 

*As the weather changes, the time to go through our clothes is upon us. Put them to good use by donating them to DAV! WeAct is putting on a USED clothing drive for Disabled American Veterans. WeAct will be accepting donations through November 11 where you can drop off at the front entrance of both the high school and elementary school.

 

*Pine Island B squad lost their final game of the season to Caledonia last night.   The Panthers got in a hole early but fought hard until the end and showed great effort and sportsmanship throughout the game.    The Panthers lone touchdown was nice catch by Carl Schutz from Nick Grande.

 

*You have a long weekend to work on your essay for the VFW Post and Auxiliary.  Write/orate a speech with the theme, “What Makes America Great” for grades 9-12 and grades 6-8.  Entry forms with the guidelines and information can be gotten from your English teachers, Social Studies teachers, or the Guidance Office.  Essays will be picked up at the Main Office on Thursday, October 31st 

*Middle School Student Council (MSSC) will be having a 7th and 8th grade dance on Friday November 1st from 7pm to 9pm.  We are looking for parent volunteers to help out that night. You would need to be at school at 6:30pm. If you are able to help out please contact Jessica Zielinski at jzielinski@pineisland.k12.mn.us 


*Pine Island Wrestling is looking for anyone in grades 7th-12th interested in doing stats/video for the wrestling team.  If interested or you would like to learn more please see Mr. Pierson if you haven't already.

*Middle School Artists - Would you like to win some money?  Enter the annual Lions Peace Poster contest, with this years theme of "Journey of Peace!"  1st place = $75, 2nd place = $50, and 3rd place = $25.  Pine Island students ages 11, 12, and 13 years old by November 15, 2019 are eligible.  Please see Mrs. Flaig for the contest rules and entry form. Due date: October 29th.
